Kjartan Fløgstad, born in 1944 in Sauda, is one of the most remarkable Norwegian
authors of our time. He debuted as a poet, but made his breakthrough with the 1977
novel Dalen Portland (English title - Dollar Road), for which he received the Nordic
Council literature prize. Fløgstad's authorship is influenced by Latin American magic
realism; he blends poetry and social satire, folksy storytelling and a prolific
knowledge. Fløgstad has also penned an extensive collection of expository writing and
is one of our most prominent essayists. His books have been translated into many
languages.
