Each library has selected two or more regional authors based on the criteria that they are writers of fiction who have published high quality literature that has been translated into English, German or French.
The most innovative about this project is that the libraries' presentations of authors and literature from or about the Cities of Culture will be displayed on the Internet based on a shared format and a common home page linking the various web sites together. Each library will post their contributions about the chosen authors in both their national language and in English.
The project will premiere during the literature conference in Helsinki at the end of February 2000, and will thereafter be available to the entire world.
The chosen authors will also participate in author exchanges with the other European Cities of Culture 2000.
Bergen Public Library (BOB) has designed both the layout - which the others cities can copy - and the common home page.
This project is made possible by a grant from the EU-programme "Ariane".
